I LOVED Archers Voice. And, was super excited to read this book. Unfortunately... It was a huge disappointment. It lacked the yearning, the turmoil, the sexy tug that makes this genre of book so delicious. It was just flat. The love story was meh... The tension of the "complicated unknown past" of the female lead was boring, the rehash of Travis' mother was unnecessary and the only good part was seeing a glimpse of the hea for Archer... But not enough to make this book elevate past a two stars. No passion, no heart, no tragedy... It was really just kinda blah... I liked the bang at the beginning... The small Travis daddy revelation... The peek at Archer "after" and that's it. Of course, you won't believe me and you'll read it anyway. I'd read it on the Archer love alone... just don't expect much. It will only take a few hours, and you may like it one star more... Three TOPS. Mia has finally put me out of the misery of wondering about Travis Hale and what his story would turn out to be. Readers of Archer's Voice well know that Travis Hale was not the nicest or most upstanding citizen of Pelion, Maine, despite the fact he is the Chief of Police there. He did some downright despicable things to Archer, even though he is family, so I really wasn't sure if Travis would ever be able to redeem himself in my eyes, and if he did, it was going to take some mighty big acts of repentance to warrant forgiveness.I was equally curious about what kind of woman was going to be the one who would finally bring Travis Hale to his knees. So far, it's been countless women falling at his feet, so I was dying to see who Mia was going to introduce us to that was going to be the one that would make Travis actually have to work for their attention and affection. Turns out, it is one quirky, plant rescuing girl from California with some crazy curly hair that stopped Travis in his tracks. But Haven Torres has no intention of staying in Pelion, she's just there for the summer, working a seasonal job at the country club. And anyway, she's not even his normal type, so is there even a future for these two?I am so happy to say that Mia delivered a story that answered all the lingering questions I had about Travis, Archer, the town of Pelion, and yes, even his witch of a mother, Tori Hale. This story wasn't just about the relationship between Travis and Archer, it was really about the relationship the Hale family has in the town of Pelion, which they own. It was about the long, sordid history of what the Hale men, both past and present, have been through and how the fallout of it all has actually affected the town and its people.Haven may not have been Travis's "type" but she was exactly what he needed. She challenged him, made him question everything, and didn't fawn at his feet like all the other women he'd been with had. She certainly put his ego in check. Their banter and interactions were refreshing and I just really loved them together. And along the way, I loved seeing the gradual shift in Travis, and by the end of the story, I was head over heels for him, just like Archer.I loved SO many of the characters we met in this book. I so hope there are going to be more books in this series, so we can see all of them some more. The scenes between Travis and Archer were my absolute favorite, and I loved seeing Bree and their children. Connor and Charlie were such a hoot!Total bliss, that's what I'm feeling after finishing this book. It was just perfection!
